Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is the most common type of massage. If it’s your first massage session or you don’t get massages often, a Swedish massage is the best type to start.

It is the combination of many different techniques rolled into one session. During the session, the therapist will work with the soft tissues and muscles in the body to help restore balance and health, applying gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. It can help increase the level of oxygen in the blood, improve circulation and flexibility. The result will relax all of the muscles in your body and release any pain or tension that may exist.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage is a technique used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as strains, chronic pains, sports injuries, and muscle tightness. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and fascia (connective tissues). This technique helps break up scar tissue following an injury and reduces tension in muscle and tissue.

Trigger Points

Myofascial pain often results from a muscle injury or repetitive strain. When stressed or injured, muscles often form trigger points, like contracted knots, that cause pain and tightness. Trigger points are painful when pressure is applied to the affected site causing a unique property called referred pain. Referred pain means that a trigger point in one muscle can create pain in another area.

Trigger point therapy involves the applied pressure to these painful, sensitive areas to alleviate the pain on-site and in other areas of the body. Massage and trigger point therapy usually are used together.

Cupping

Cupping is a vacuum-type massage technique performed with handheld cups. Placing suction cups on the body creates a partial vacuum to reduce tension on the skin and tissues underneath. It can soften tight muscles and tone, loosen restrictive connective tissues, bringing hydration and blood flow to the body’s tissues.

It’s a good therapy option to be used after any form of exercise or post sporting events. During exercise, lactic acids and waste substances build-up, contributing to muscle soreness and tightness. Cupping will lift the tissues, increasing blood flow draining out waste from the tissues, and replace them with oxygen and nutrients, reducing soreness and tightness.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a type of therapy that uses gentle pressure on specific points along your feet, which correspond to all of the body’s glands, organs, and systems. Properly stimulating these reflexes can normalize the body’s natural balance by easing tension and improving nerve function and blood supply. It’s also known as zone therapy.

The way reflexology connects spots on the outside of your body to the inside is like acupuncture or acupressure. But those therapies use points all over your body, not just on your feet, hands, and ears.

Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic Drainage massage is a form of gentle, painless, and rhythmic massage that increases the movement of lymph fluids around the body through your lymphatic system.

The fluid in the lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from the bodily tissues. Some health conditions can cause excessive production of lymph fluid. Drainage massage can benefit people with lymphedema, fibromyalgia, post-surgery, and other conditions.
